Walton Bibliography

Several years ago I developed a serious interest in The Compleat Angler by Izaak Walton. Although primarily known as a "fishing book," a deeper study reveals that it also reflects the social upheaval of the English Interregnum -- the period during which the book was written -- and how Walton used the work as a veiled reaffirmation of his commitment to the Monarchy and Anglicanism. As I read some of the scholarly work on the subject I gradually developed a fair amount of expertise on the various editions published over the book's 350-year history. The Compleat Angler is one of the most printed books in the English language and has been in print almost continually since Walton's first edition. The history of its many editors has become the framework for my own collecting interest and I have representative copies of editions from most the significant editors in its history, as well as numerous other reference works.
