From Bauhaus To Our House

From Bauhaus To Our House
by Tom Wolfe
Farrar Straus Giroux, 1981

Comments:  Wolfe is well known for his "new journalism" style of non-fiction writing and this book is an early example of that at its best, blending fact and opinion into a somewhat wry thesis of what's wrong with modern architecture -- or more specifically, the International Style -- and its impact of austerity on our built environments. Whether you agree with his conclusions or not, his observations are insightful and though-provoking, and he presents an entertaining and engaging case that's well worth reading if you take architecture seriously.
