Andrea Palladio
The Architect In His Time
by Bruce Boucher
Abbeville Press, 1998
Second Edition, 2007
Comments: I have a keen interest in the Renaissance Italian architect Andrea Palladio and I'm always looking for books about him. Much has been written about Palladio, but it's often limited to narrow aspects of his work and seldom covers much of his life story. This book distinguishes itself by attempting to deal with the full scope of his life, including his personal biography. And it does that masterfully, being perhaps one of the best books on the subject that I've found. By an author with an academic background, the writing somewhat has the feel of a scholarly work, but is still very approachable for general interest reading. The accompanying photography and art reproductions are first rate. This may be the best all-around biography of Palladio ever produced and is highly recommended.
