The Habit of Rivers

The Habit of Rivers
Reflections on Trout Streams and Fly Fishing
by Ted Leeson
Merlin Unwin Books, 1994

Comments:  The stories in this book so profoundly inspired me that I moved to Montana to try and experience the life they describe. Simplistically you could say it's a book about the enjoyment of fly fishing, but that would be a understatement. It's something that I hadn't really known existed before: fishing literature.

Leeson is an exceptionally talented writer who has mastered his subject matter wholly by living it. He tells richly detailed stories from his lifetime of experience on great trout rivers. They're not merely about fishing, but about the beauty and reverence some people find in the places where wild trout live, and the passion to catch them in the most challenging way. This is a work of devotion of the highest order. Anyone who appreciates great nature writing would love this book.
