My Moby Dick
by William Humphrey
Nick Lyon Books, 1978
Comments: This very collectible little book is basically just a short story or novella. The humorous tale centers on one man's quest to catch a mythically large, one-eyed brown trout, on a dry fly, while under exceptionally challenging river conditions. Humphrey was a Texas-born novelist who found a measure of success in Hollywood, but this is a much more personal story that deals with his love of fly fishing for trout. Though told in fun, for those with the same passion this account conveys the spirit of all that's joyous and frustrating in that pursuit.
I have two first edition copies of this wonderful little book. The one shown above is a prerelease review copy in excellent condition that I found at a used book store for five dollars. It's worth much more.
