Examples, The Making of 40 Photographs
by Ansel Adams
Little, Brown, 1983
Comments: There are a lot of photography books by and about Adams, but this is probably my favorite. What sets it apart is that it includes the stories behind so many iconic images. Not so much the technical details, but more the creative process and interesting circumstances surrounding each photo. It's like being shown behind the veil of Adam's "magic" -- only find out that it was really just exceptional talent, a lot of hard work, and a little good luck. Nonetheless, the stories conveyed by the master himself on these beautiful works contribute greatly to their appreciation.
I've always been a great admirer of Adam's work, and I love stories on process, so a book that combines both was sure to find a way into my collection.
