Frank Lloyd Wright
by Ada Louise Huxtable
Lipper/Viking, 2004
Comments: This book is one of the Penguin Lives series. There could be no better writer to flesh-out Wright's life and work than someone whose own work as an architectural observer and critic coincided with his later years. Ms. Huxtable is the preeminent authority of an era when Wright was at the twilight of his career. Her skill as a critic in separating meaning from marketing is clearly brought to bear here in sorting through the legend of Wright's life.
For a giant such as Wright this version of the story is somewhat compact -- probably a function of the format -- but virtually all the meaningful influences, events, and accomplishments of his life are well covered. This is a worthy addition to any Wright collection.
